Power Rankings

WHAT ARE THE POWER RANKINGS?
The Power Rankings were established by Texas high school coach Andy Ferrara as a method to measure the depth and ability of a true track team.  Verona boys coach Randy Marks brought the concept to Wisconsin and handles the boys power rankings, and Amery coach Sam Bosley administered the girls power rankings through 2003 before turning it over to Madison Abundant Life coach Jason McMahon.  Through a formula developed by Coach Bosley, each performance is assigned a point value, somewhat similar to a decathlon scoring table.

HOW DO I SUBMIT MY TEAM'S ENTRY? Download and complete the Excel entry form found above, and follow the instructions provided on the entry form.  If you cannot download the file, e-mail jasonmc@mhtc.net and I will send it as an attachment.

WHAT ARE THE RULES OF THE POWER RANKINGS? Your team's final Power Ranking is an average of your top 30 performances over the course of the season.  So you must submit at least 30 performances.  You may submit more than 30; however, only the top 30 will be factored in.  I encourage you to submit more than 30, though, because if an athlete is entered in too many events, it is in your benefit to have a backup score rather than take a zero.  You may enter up to four athletes in each event. Participation limits are the same as in any WIAA meet -- each athlete may be entered in no more than three running events or three field events, and no more than four total events. This includes relays.  If you list a FAT performance, deduct .24 seconds from the time.  For hand-timed performances, please round up to the nearest tenth.  Performances may come from any meet you have competed in this year.

Results will be posted on this site after January 1.  The order of the top three teams in each division will not be revealed, however, until the WISTCA Clinic, where the top two teams in each division will be presented with a plaque.
